Christopher Cardozo is the world’s leading authority on Edward Curtis. Author of nine books, and curator of over 100 exhibitions in 42 countries and 6 continents. Cardozo is devoted to the promotion, exhibition, publication, and study of the photographer’s life work, bringing the legacy Curtis created in collaboration with 10,000 Native Americans, to contemporary audiences.
Christopher Cardozo Fine Art has consistently maintained the world’s most comprehensive collection of rare, original vintage Curtis photographs, and created the most extensive exhibition program of Curtis’ photography in history. It is estimated that the exhibitions have been seen by more people around the world then all previous Curtis exhibitions combined, and that through its books, exhibitions, lectures, and its gallery, Cardozo Fine Art has brought Curtis to well over 10 million people worldwide over the past decade alone. For over twenty years, Christopher Cardozo Fine Art has been creating contemporary original photographs by Edward Curtis for exhibition and sale.
Cardozo discovered the work of Edward Curtis in 1973 after a friend saw Cardozo’s own sepia-toned photographs of indigenous people. Cardozo holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude) in photography and film. He is a widely exhibited photographer, whose personal photographic work is in many public and private collections, including the permanent collection at The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York. Cardozo also holds a Juris Doctor degree and has lectured on the financial and legal aspects of owning works of art. His personal collection of Edward Curtis’ work has been exhibited in major international museums, and was the subject of the widely-heralded monographs Sacred Legacy; Edward S. Curtis and The North American Indian, and Edward S. Curtis: One Hundred Masterworks.
